WOODPECKER LODGE – DIRECTIONS

Best route from Johannesburg to Hoedspruit is via Witbank, exit N4 to Belfast, onto Dullstroom, Lydenburg, Ohrigstad, through the tunnel into Hoedspruit (±440 - 450 km). Takes just under 5 hours from OR Tambo International Airport.

Note this caution: If using Google Maps on your navigation device, put Hoedspruit Wildlife Estate in your device as your destination so you arrive at the correct gate. (-24.348875 ; 30.958429)

This will lead you to the Control Gate area of Hoedspruit Wildlife Estate. The Visitor’s Gate is situated to the left of all entrances.

Guests need to give us their full name plus cellular number so we can inform gate security in order for a guest to gain access to the Wildlife Estate.

Your license will be scanned at the gate and they will give you access.

Proceed left and we are 700m further on - right hand side, N° 409.

Pothole cautions:

Once past Belfast you have to be alert for potholes.

After Dullstroom and at Stonecutter’s Lodge there is a very bad section most of the way to Lydenburg.

After Lydenburg ±20km, once past a deep valley and Spekboom Primary School, about 10 km of very bad road.

Roadways can also be uneven at small bridges.

Beware the four speed bumps at the stop streets in Ohrigstad.

From Ohrigstad to almost the tunnel, the road has been resurfaced and is a good ride.

Between the two villages on Abel Erasmus Pass, potholes a plenty on the steep section.

Below the tunnel be cautious for potholes again ±20km.

Coming into Hoedspruit you will encounter a few 4-way stops. Stay straight, going through the dip and up over the railway bridge.

At the next 4-way stop turn right onto the R40 (Phalaborwa-Bushbuckridge-White River-Hazyview Road).

About 150 m on you will get another 4-way stop – turn left and go down the paved road. Shopping Centre on right.

This will lead you to the Control Gate area of Hoedspruit Wildlife Estate. The Visitor’s Gate is situated to the left of all entrances.

Guests need to give us their full name plus cellular number so we can inform gate security in order for a guest to gain access to the Wildlife Estate.

We will inform the Estate’s Security of your arrival – tell them you are staying at N° 409 and then give them your name/access code.

Your license will be scanned at the gate and they will give you access.

Proceed left, follow the road and we are 700m further on - right hand side, N° 409.
